We’ve all been envious of celebrities’ latest handbags and purses. But what about the overrated ones? In a recent survey, the American Affluence Research Center surveyed people from the richest 10% of American households to determine which luxury brands are overrated. The results showed that 37% of the richest 10% said Louis Vuitton handbags were overrated, as were Prada, Hermes, and Gucci. In fact, nearly one-third of the 692 respondents said they wouldn’t choose Gucci, Prada, or Hermes if they had an extra $1,000 to spend on a luxury handbag.
The survey asked consumers to comment on which brands were overrated, and which were underrated. The most overrated luxury bags, according to respondents, were Louis Vuitton, Hermes, Gucci, Chanel, and Prada. The least overrated luxury brands were Nordstrom’s and Clinique, which are the most popular and most expensive department stores. A similar survey looked at what people expect from their Christmas presents. Sixty-two per cent of women wanted a luxury handbag and 72 percent expected men to give a luxury brand.
