Representation at the United Nations
In 2018, South Africa was elected to serve as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. The election was held during the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly. It was also South Africa’s second term on the council. This was an honor for South Africa, as it was dedicated to the legacy of Nelson Mandela superstep.
As an African nation, South Africa is committed to promoting peace, non-racial and non-sexist Africa and its unity. Its foreign policy is based on the United Nations and its multilateral system. Besides serving on the Security Council, South Africa also participates in various United Nations bodies and organizations.
